Mohawk: A Full update and brief history
On Christmas this year, you'll recall that I was quite depressed and alone. Nighttime was looming at about 4:30 pm, and I was alone and anxious in my tiny and dusty apartment. Nothing on TV; the movie store was closed; all friends busy or on vacation. I blogged a bit (check back to the entry from 12/25/06) and then I went to look on Craig's List, mostly out of boredom, if not slight curiosity.
Under Men Seeking Women, I found the following entry:
"Are there any Jewish girls out there who want to eat Chinese food with me? I'm lonely on Christmas, and I don't have any Jewish friends." (Age 30; neighborhood West Village)
I thought that was such a sweet message. So I wrote back and he immediately contacted me. We got each other's AIM address and exchanged "myspace" profiles. He seemed a little odd in the photo--he was dressed like the devil, seriously!

but he seemed really nice and smart and I was so happy and thrilled to have a reason to leave the house.
We met up at the Blind Tiger, a bar that was about to close. I got there before him, with the NYTimes Magazine in tow. It was the one that recapped all of the pop-culture "new words" of 2005. I sipped my gin & tonic, and then he arrived. "What!? He has a mohawk!?!? That wasn't in his pictures..." This was going to be fun, anyway, I thought. I had warned him beforehand that I was in a horrible mood (after all, I had been crying all day) but after we spoke for ten minutes, he was like "you really don't seem to be in a bad mood! If this is bad, then..."
Anyways, we had a couple drinks, he told me about himself, his projects, etc. He was an artist, and into all sorts of things, like origami (he's really good at it) and glass fusing and sculpture, et al. He was nice, and I had no trouble being at ease with him-- although the drinks certainly helped. We went on to have our Chinese food-- he paid--then moved on to the Other Room, a quiet bar. Whew, did I ever become drunk! But he was perfectly sweet, and made sure I got home okay and everything. Once I got back with the Wizard for out miserable New Year's Eve, I kinda lost touch with Mohawk. But he was there on my "Buddy List" and we chatted occasionally.
We didn't really get to hang out again until 2 weeks ago, when he accompanied me to my cousin's weird concert. I found him on the street corner where we had arranged to meet, and he actually looked quite good--- no more mohawk, and he had lost weight. I noticed his green eyes for the first time. He had a kind of 1950s look going. Long sideburns and somewhat curly on top. Interesting.
We had a nice evening. Drank a lot, then he took me to dinner. We were having a lot of fun. But I had to leave becuase I was going to meet DreamBoy (a bad name, because we haven't spoken since that night). It was becuase of my hang-out with Mohawk that I was tipsy meeting up with DreamBoy. I was having fun with Mohawk, and felt a little sad on leaving. I even called Hyde and told her that there was some chemistry between us. (I feel like I'm using a teleoogical account of the story here, always a bad idea when writing history. Perhaps the DreamBoy meeting does introduce a bit of contingincy into the re-telling...)
The next day, I was feeling tired even though I had a lot to read. Mohawk was online and he invited me over to watch a movie during the day. While at his place, he showed me all of his many creations: teeny-weeny glass critters that he made by hand; a gigantic industrial looking steel arm that carried an itsy bitsy origami bird; 1,000 glass beakers which he was using to make a skeleton hand. He also really kicked my ass at Boggle! He's good at it. After the movie, I went home and I can't really remember what I did next.
Then Mohawk IMed me that he had a job for me... so I took it! The job required 20 hours of work at the New School University, where I helped out with research. I was impressed with his job and with the kind of work he did. I realized while playing Boggle that he's actually really intelligent too. That was apparent at work too, where he seemed to be the start deisgner and computer programmer, and researcher. I noticed that everyone at the office was really smart. I felt flattered that he thought of me for the job!
After a full week of working together, I wanted to invite Mohawk for a drink to thank him for the job, etc. I texted him on Friday at about 10pm, and he was actually just leaving his office. He met up with my friend CurlyQ and me. I was glad to see him. She thought he was cute. There was some drama between Maximus and CurlyQ, who had kind of started dating. Mohawk stayed with me at the bar and two of his female friends met up with us. Maximus reappeared at the bar after things had gone sour with CurlyQ. The 2 drunk girls took off. It was just me, Maximus and Mohawk. We strolled down the street up to the roof of my new very awesome very beautiful apartment. However, we stopped into my place and never made it up to the rtoof. Maximus was moody as hell. He was upset about CurlyQ. Because I just moved in, I have very sparse furnishings at my apartment. Maximus took the chair and Mohawk and I laid on my bed, casually. In a huff, Maximus stood up and said, "OK, I'm tired." He looked over to Mohawk: "I don't want to be awkward or anything, but dude, are you staying here? Because if you aren't, then I'm going to lay down on the bed. If you are staying then I'll take off."
I couldn't believe that Maximus had the balls to try to take control of my apartment and invite himself to sleep over AND to pose such a strange question to Mohawk! Well, Mohawk responded mellowly, "I think I'll stick around for awhile."
I know it sounds strange, but that sealed the deal for the night. After Maximus left, me and Mohawk started touching each other's arms or hands or whatever. Then cuddling. Before too many more hours, we were naked. Let me just say: Mohawl surprised me. Hot. Very, VERY hot. Um, I really like him now. He was just amazing. He slept over in my unsheeted bed. There was change from his pants all over the bed.
The next morning we woke up and I found a quarter and I said "This is for last night."
Har-har, aren't I funny?
Anyway, he wanted me to stay in bed and sleep because he feared I may be very sick with a hangover. But I wasn't. I wanted to show him the roof. So we went up there. Rainy, rainy morning! The Empire State Building had its head immersed in clouds. It was perfectly romantic, at least to me. We went out into the cold, and I took him to my favorite tiny French cafe, and bought him brunch. We talked about the possibilty of going back to my place again, and we did as much!
I like him. I'm leaving today to go to Arizona for a week, and Ill post about anti-climactic and dumb Sing-Man at that point.

I am glad to hear that you are having fun with someone you like and admire.
If you can just refrain from analysing him like you have the others....it sounds like this little affair has promise.
All the best and good luck.

Mystic, You are my secret to good luck!
Dan, it's usually irresponsible of a historian to write history as if such a thing as "fate" existed. Or to write it as if the outcome of events was predetermined to the "rising action." Instead, the thing to do is to treat each occurence with the sponteneity that it had on its first experience. Teleology is the word I use when I think of treating the past like it was pre-determined by the same motivations that it would be if I experienced the event today. (make sense?)

Thanks for the explanation. I think maybe I get it, although I suspect that all bloggers are prone to teleology.
