Weird.
I have a date with Sing-man tonight! But I'm on "standby" to see whether he gets out of his big-time law-firm on time. What intrigues me about Sing-man, you might ask? I have no read on the guy. He's playing a classic round of "Where's Hammer?".
To play it, all you need to do is really ignore the girl that you like for just long enough. Then contact her right when you sense she's about to throw in the towel. Sing-man's technique seems to be the once-a-day text message. I really don't know what's up with that. He writes it between the hours of 10:45 and 12:15 each morning. He'll respond to a message that I wrote an entire day before. I'm unsure what to expect when I see him again.
He has a thick boundary, kind of (but not entirely) like the Wizard. It seems he's susceptible to little things I say and then could really put his foot down. (Or maybe I'm just reading into that.)
Oh, I saw the Wizard again, out of the corner of my eye. He's really pathetic. He came to the luncheon for grad students. I don't know why he persists in going to school-related things. He really has no business doing that-- he failed.
Did I just digress on the Wizard? My bad! Sorry.
Back to Sing-man. We talked on the phone today, when he called me "Hon" and he made a flirtatious allusion to staying in bed for a week. I know he's a nerd, but I thought it was cute. I like how Sing-man totally walks the tightrope between obvious coolness and obvious nerdiness. I mean, he clearly thinks he's cool. But he's also clearly a nerdy sort-- it takes energy apparent to other nerds like me, to keep that cool facade going. It's really classic. Whatever it is, I like the combo.
Anyway, I did a presentation today on Algeria. People really seemed to like it! The prof especially dug this one question I asked about the "Algerian Syndrome" as opposed to the "Vichy Syndrome." I thought that one was a little bit of an obvious kiss-up, but he sure bit! He said, "See this Excellent question that Hammer asked... blablabla!"
What else? I had a substitute in ballet last night. She was good, but I missed my real teacher. I love her so much. She has some really interesting ways of putting dance together with life. I find dance to be the single most therapeutic thing in my life and so I look forward to her classes each night. Here's a little picture of her at work

:Isn't she lovely?
There's barely any evidence of it here, but I'm in the middle of a huge life-change. I'm about to move into a very incredible apartment. Part of the deal is that I need to get the place renovated, just a little though. So right now it's being painted by my lovely neighbors and friends, Artsy and Marzipan. They are a couple and I really like them both-- such true genuine people are hard to come by these days. Marzipan is cool because she loves my bird and she makes marzipan for a living. Artsy does just about everything; writing novels and children's books, painting, and the like.
Anyway, I'm moving Friday at 9am if you can believe it.
Wish me luck on S-man!

I am very happy to see the new bright colours of your blog. I hope this is a reflection of your good mood.
I have one suggestion to make regarding Sing Man, or any other man that you like and want to get involved with.
Try to stop analysing their intentions so much. If they're being nice to you and you enjoy their company. Take them at face value. It will help not to drive you crazy.
Enjoy the moment, life is to short.

Hey "Hon,"
As I've already given you extensive commentary regarding SingMan over the phone, I'm more interested in this-- I'm clear on the Vichy Syndrome, but what is it that you are calling "the Algerian Syndrome" and what was your kiss-up brilliant question for the professor????
love,
hyde

The Vichy Syndrome is the invented name of the French tendency to deny that a large majority of French elites collaborated--actively--with the Germans. My proposal was that the Algerian SYndrome would be France's utter negligence in including that war in the "canonical" history of the fifties and sixties.
