What a strange few months it's been. Actually, it's been nearly a year since I last posted. I wanted to post this because I was inspired by feitclub.com's brilliant work. So, hyde and I discovered it was authored by the relative of our wonderfully brilliant military historian friend.
I wanted to tell also about my dream last night: It involved three birds. One was a large macaw and he killed and maimed little jimmy bird. There was another medium-sized bird that was salvaged from the carnage.
The lesson? I like being victim. But I'm so happy having discovered that about myself.
Onto another topic: Now I'm working one a paper about women and the enlightenment. I can't decide (of course!) if I believe that the enlightenment was *good* or *bad* for women. That, i guess, is beside the point. I suppose I'll criticize this one woman who thinks that the Enlightenment came up with a "woman's nature" for the bourgeois public sphere. That may hold some water, but I'd be more inclined to say that it was because of the secularizing impulse that led them to criticize women. They were trying to excuse sex and soften the element of motherhood. Before them, the Catholic Church ruled all and they were the ones that made the rules. The philosophes concoted new rules. Let's just say this: I'm the philosophes, and the Wizard is the old regime. I'm trying to undercut his rules and make my own.
Love, Solo-philia
