So I can't seem to get any work done on this damned paper. I have been "reading around" the topic for awhile. Now I'm stuck on demography, which is very interesting. Apparently in France the birth rate began to rapidly decline around 1800-1850. The rest of Western Europe stayed as is, but France declined. They say that it could be because women began breast-feeding because raising and paying attention to each child was a new priority with domesticity. (Before that, they had used wet nurses, but rousseau among others advised that women breastfeed.) Breastfeeding stops if a woman becomes impregnated again, so couples stopped having intercourse during breastfeeding. They are rumored to have used coitus interruptus.
